Obituary of Jessica Gutierrez
Jessica Gutierrez, 34, of Kenosha and formerly of Waukegan, passed away on August 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Fulgencio and Silvia Figueroa, Jessica was raised in Waukegan and graduated from Waukegan High School in 2008. She continued her education at Northeastern University and earned an advanced degree in Educational Specialist (EDS) from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
Jessica found her true calling as a School Psychologist. She began her career with the Waukegan School District and later joined the Racine Unified District in 2015. A fierce advocate for the voiceless, especially bilingual students and students with disabilities, Jessica always prioritized her students' best interests, often putting their needs before her own.
Jessica was an avid movie enthusiast, known for her ability to quote lines from classic films and keeping up with the latest releases. She had a genuine love for singing and dancing. A life-changing moment came when she and her husband, Hector, adopted their dog, Xena. This newfound companionship inspired Jessica to embrace outdoor activities, including hiking and exploring with the most fashionable accessories. One of her most cherished adventures being their hike to the top of Devil’s Lake in Wisconsin.
When Jessica gave birth to her son Armando at 29 weeks, she immediately stepped into the role of a supermom, visiting the hospital every day for two months while Armando was in the NICU. Her dedication ensured that Armando received the best possible care once he came home. Shortly after, Jessica was diagnosed with cancer and fought valiantly while maintaining her sense of humor and positive outlook.
Jessica's heart of gold and indomitable spirit have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and leaves behind a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends.
Jessica is survived by her husband Hector, her son of ten months Armando, her parents Fulgencio and Silvia, her brother Santiago, her sisters Yaneth (Roberto) and Erika (Manny); her nieces and nephews Tito, Ivan, Jaylene & Enzo and Zeke; her brother-in-law Epi and sister-in-law Daisy.
