Obituary of Samuel Berton Denton, III
Samuel Berton Denton III 95, US Army, of Mundelein died Friday, February 16, 2024, at Wealshire in Lincolnshire.
Samuel was born May 31, 1928 at Chicago Lying-In Hospital to his parents Mary Kasile (Kasilauska) Denton Elzberg and Samuel Berton Denton II and was later raised by his stepfather Walter Elzberg. Samuel attended University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and graduated with a degree in Architecture 1951 and was a proud member of Chi Psi fraternity.
Samuel married wife Ruth Eleanor (Ward) September 16, 1957 in a civil ceremony at the Chicago City Hall. Their union was blessed with two children Samuel B. Denton IV, and Daughter Veronica Mary Denton Knocke. He worked as an architect for the City of Chicago 1963-1974, and then many freelance endeavors throughout the years. Samuel was a skilled watercolorist and painted many scenes in and around Chicago, Illinois, and Lake Michigan. Samuel was a dedicated to his faith and was member of St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church for more than 4 decades.
Samuel is survived by son Samuel Denton IV of Mundelein, daughter Veronica (Joel) Knocke of San Antonio, Texas, granddaughter Flora (Tom) Mendoza of Urbana, granddaughter Megan (Will) Greer and great-grandson James of Austin, Texas. Also many nieces and nephews: Mark Page, Ward Page, John Page, Mary Ellen Page, Robert Page. Victoria McGraw, Jeanne McGraw, Ralph McGraw.
A private memorial service will be held to honor Samuel's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity that supports the arts or architecture in memory of Samuel's contributions to these fields. His warmth, talent, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
