It is difficult for me to put into words my thoughts about my father and our lives. As my tribute, I will share some photos, including part of a poem and paintings that I did in college.
I remember when I was very young, just a toddler, and we had a lot of cats! He called me his kitten. I included a photo of him holding one of our kittens.
One photo from 1990, from a family reunion in Michigan by the lake. He always went swimming in the lake when we lived a block from Lake Michigan, and when we lived in Libertyville he would swim at Adler Pool or Lake Minear. Later he joined the YMCA in Mundelein. He loved swimming, and would always do the butterfly stroke, it was impressive to watch!
A photo from 1994 or so, when my daughter Megan was a toddler, and my father's sister Marianne and her family came to visit. My cousin Vickie is on the left, uncle Ralph McGraw, Aunt Marianne, myself holding Megan, and my Mother Ruth standing behind Dad. I was living in San Antonio by then. Uncle Ralph was one of Dad's college fraternity brothers, so they would reminisce about their days at UIUC.
A photo from my mother Ruth's 80th birthday party, once again Marianne McGraw is on the right, then Dad, then my brother Sam, and my Aunt Mary Ellen Page.
Then a photo from 2018, with my father Sam, my brother Sam, my daughter Megan and her husband William Greer.
The watercolor paintings are from 1982, and I keep them in a special place. I share them here.
I hope the dear memories of those days will stay in our hearts always.

I am so sorry to learn of Sam's death. Sam, Marianne, Jane, Diane, and I grew up together "a few years back" in Waukegan. He will certainly be remembered in my prayers. I plan to have a Mass offered for Sam here in Washington , DC at St. Matthew the Apostle Cathedral.
Best wishes,
Don Lincoln
