Obituary of Fred C. Yates
Fred C. Yates Jr., of Libertyville, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family August 31, 2023, at the age of 75.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay Yates and sons Paul (Courtney) Wachtel, Thomas (Eva) Yates, and Daniel (Bethann) Yates; grandchildren Carter, Cameron, Jamie, Theodore, and Penelope; siblings Cheryl (Bill) Weiss, Pamela Kochel, Susan (Bill) Landis, Mark Yates, and Cindy (Larry) Storie. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Virginia Yates, and his brother Tim Yates.
Fred graduated from Brookville High School in Brookville, Ohio, Class of 1966. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and was a graduate from NCO school earning the promotion of Sergeant. Fred deployed to South Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and saw combat operations amidst the Tet Offensive conducting combat patrols along the Long Khanh Province in defense of Saigon. His personal awards include the Purple Heart Medal ( 2 awards), Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and various unit commendations.
Following service in the Army, he attended Wright State College in Ohio and DePaul University in Chicago, earning his Accounting Degree. He was a tax accountant of Abbott Laboratories for 30 years. Among that, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and attending Church. Above all, he enjoyed being with his family.
A Memorial Visitation for Fred will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 from 4PM-7PM at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville, IL 60048. Funeral Service Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 10AM with a Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Fort Sheridan National Cemetery in the future.
