Marily was the BEST! She was my husband's cousin, but she embraced me into the family like I was born into it. And like I was Italian, which I wasn't.
She always had a smile on her face, a hug for someone and pearls of wisdom to help you live by. She was a gem!
We will miss her. Peaceful journeys in this next phase, Marilyn! God speed.

As her cousin, I have many fond memories of family picnic gatherings. Most of them were at Crystal Lake. All of the cousins, from all of the families were there. We were like one big Italian family.
When my sister and I moved to AZ, we enjoyed visiting Chicago and our family reunions. One of the best was when Marilyn hosted a ravioli dinner for all of us. It was wonderful!
I always enjoyed her sense of humor and ability to make us laugh. She will be missed.

Marilyn was not just a colleague at Carmel; she became my friend. She started at the school shortly before I was hired in 1973, and I don't remember her ever missing a day of work except when she went to Washington, D. C. as a chaperone on a student trip. She was right there at her desk or at the counter every a.m. when we arrived.
She was so conscientious, and I believe that one of her duties was to be sure everything was closed up and secure before she went home. On one occasion she closed and locked the vault, only to hear some tapping coming from inside. Marilyn had inadvertently locked the principal, Sr. Patricita, inside the vault. That story generated many laughs when Marilyn shared the story with the faculty.
One time a few years after that, one of our school buses disappeared. This was probably not too long after the Cowchilla incident in California when a school bus was actually hijacked with all students aboard. We didn't have cell phones and technology back in the 70s, and Marilyn was beside herself in panic over what might have happened to our kids. Eventually the driver was able to make contact with the school. He was new and had listened to the students who kept advising him to proceed in the wrong direction. He called from somewhere around Randhurst in Mount Prospect, and Marilyn was able to get him back on track.
My best Marilyn story is a very personal one. I left Carmel in 1989. I was getting married in October of '91, and Marilyn, along with Cathy Smolka, hosted a bridal shower in her home for me. It touched my heart in ways that defy expression. It's the kind of gesture one provides for a close relative, especially a sister.https://s3.amazonaws.com/skins.funeraltechweb.com/tribute-gestures/v2/heart.png
After we all moved on from Carmel, Marilyn organized an annual summer luncheon to keep us connected--until she couldn't any longer.
I can't help but feel elated for Marilyn who is finally cuddling her baby and embracing Robert after decades of separation. As people of faith, we know that those who live in Jesus never see each other for the last time.
Always in my heart, Marilyn,
Joyce Kosinski

Marilyn and Bob were our next-door neighbors for 30 years! While Bob guided us through our early gardening efforts, Marilyn befriended our young daughters and was such an influence in their lives. She and I shared a friendship that deepened when we were both widowed too soon. So many wonderful memories, Kay Handcock, Melissa and Stephanie

I remember going to Marilyn's home for the big ravoli dinner with all of the DeMichael family. All seated in the garage. Scott, Liz, Audrey and I were there. What a time we had. There were more ravoli than all of Chicago could eat. They said there was a prize for the one that could eat the most. I didn't win but should have. I remember that Audrey asked Marilyn for her grandmother's receipe for the ravoli which Marilyn sent. What a time with the DeMichael family. I will never forget. Gary

Marilyn and I were both widows, lived in the same community and were both of the mind to help those less fortunate, We helped with the activities of the Libertyville Lions Club, and were Election Judges for years. This led to a deep and personal friendship.,Often we ate lunch or dinner together and even took a cruise from Barcelona to Rome. A wonderful and rewarding adventure, When I moved to Florida, she visited with me and even attended my grand daughter's wedding, She will be greatly missed.,

Grateful for "Ms. Sewall's" time at Carmel Catholic. She freely shared her gifts with the school community: her professionalism, organization, and initiative were admired by many. Her efforts made Carmel a better place. May she rest in peace.

What a beautiful lady -
Although I never met Marilyn personally, I feel I was able to meet her through some of the stories shared.
She was a very special lady who made a positive difference in the lives of others.
May you rest in peace, Marilyn.

Q: How did you meet Marilyn?
A: Marilyn and Bob lived near us on Golf Rd, so I would see her now and then riding bikes with Bob, or hosting a shower for a neighbor. After Bob passed away, we began walking together. She was on the go so often and would invite me along: The Lions pancake breakfast; Ridge Readers book club; activities at the Senior Center; lunch after church at The Liberty. There was life in Libertyville besides my job, PTA or my church! Marilyn was fun, and opened a whole new world for me! I will miss my friend.

I can’t think of my years at Carmel without remembering Marilyn. For me she was a stabilizing force. If you needed to know who, where, when, Marilyn was your resource. She gave us “gentle”reminders when needed and often drew from her repertoire of humorous one liners
Goodbye, Marilyn. Thank you for making a difference difference. I believe that things are going to run more smoothly in heaven now that you have entered those golden gates.

One of my fondest memories of Marilyn was gathering at her home for our family favorite - Raviolis! There were so many of us, we dined in the garage. My daughter Emma was just a baby, so we brought a jumpy play set for her to sit in so she could be a part of the group. And now Emma is off to dental school in the Fall, following in great Cousin Bob’s footsteps.
May you rest in Peace, Marilyn and celebrate with all the Italians in heaven.
Love, Michael, Lisa, Emma and Mia Hammer
