Obituary of Gregory Sander
Gregory Sander passed peacefully on Thursday at the age of 85.
Greg was born in Brentwood, Missouri. He was the son of Harry and Marge Sander. He was an active resident of Highland Park, Illinois, for 35 years and Libertyville, Illinois, for 43 years.
Greg and his wife Connie (née Glader) were married 67.5 years. They eloped to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 1955 and lived in various places around Europe before settling in Highland Park. They retained their love of travel, having traveled to 40 countries and four continents.
Greg was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed his jobs at Lamkin Leather and Libertyville High School for 20 years, retiring in 2005. He was a devoted volunteer for Makajawan Boy Scout Camp for 30 years. He loved watching movies and plays, cheering on the Bears, landscaping, decorating for Christmas, fishing, completing projects in his garage workshop, and maintaining his pride and joy, his 1937 Buick.
His family was most important. He is survived by his wife Connie; son Scott Sander (Rosemary Smith); daughter Wendy (Tim) Olson; grandchildren Carrie (TJ) Smith, Amy (Derek) Benz, and Bryan Olson; four great-grandchildren with two more on the way; brother Dick (Mary Anne) Sander; brother-in-law Dan (Chris) Glader; and many nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his son Dean Sander.
Visitation will be at the McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place in Libertyville, at 11:00 a.m. with a service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
