Connie and all, we are truly sorry for missing Greg' passing. Please know we are utterly saddened of the news but grateful that he passed so peacefully. I can't say enough of what I learned from Greg, what to do n what not to do as well... Greg was truly a 'life friend' he could have been a big brother, except for that 'little inner kid' that never grew up (ha ha). May you all be comforted by the wonderful memories of; humor, determination, travel, knowledge, love of country, family, and the stories....Oh The Stories. Connie bless you for your strength, patience, love and a stiff spine over the years. Our heart felt wishes and love of you all will be with us forever. Tom N Liz Ohlinger

So many fond memories of Greg dating back to my childhood. The numerous camping trips with Connie and Greg and the kids. Spending time at their house in Highland Park. He was a loyal friend of my father Cliff Brauck helping him with many projects at our house on Mc Daniels. Working with my dad in Chicago at Lamkin Leather. The love he had for his family including many cats and dogs over the years. His 1937 Buick driving me and my spouse at my wedding in 1987. He was a great guy and will be sorely missed and in my heart forever. Condolences to his family and friends.

I have been a friend of Wendy's since grade school and have always considered Greg and Connie to be my Parents-in-Friendship.
I spent many happy afternoons/weekends as their guest at both of their Highland Park and Libertyville homes, having also gone to high school with Wendy in Mundelein.
I always felt very welcome when I hung out with the Sander family which always included the cats, mini dachshunds, and ferrets (usually to be found playing at Greg's feet or on his lap while he sat watching TV in his recliner). The memory of the sweet/silly way he would talk to his pets will make me laugh forever.
I was a very grateful beneficiary of Greg and Connie's love of travel when they thoughtfully brought me back a piece of the Berlin Wall right after it was toppled. It reminds me of Wendy's dear parents every time I see it and is something I will always treasure as part of my stone/gem/rock collection. That small, precious piece of admittedly-not-very-pretty cement represents to me the powerful Hope of Peace and the Healing of old wounds/Reunion. Those are two things that never get old in my opinion.
I am also so grateful for the truly wonderful memories I accumulated when Wendy's parents took me with them to Epcot Center and Busch Gardens in FL one year. It was the first time I ever flew in a plane [which I love] and I remember looking at Florida with my face smashed against the window thinking it was the weirdest-looking place I had ever been. It reminded me of the Flintstones cartoon.
In a sense, I was able to travel the world with Wendy, Greg, and Connie as we went from one World Showcase exhibit to another at Epcot. My favorite was Germany, funny enough, when we went to the Beer Garden to get something to eat.
Watching Greg do the "Ein, zwei, drei" 'song' with a beer in hand and sauerkraut & sausages on all the tables... and German Folk dancers/lederhosen everywhere was great fun.
That's how I remember it anyway - Wendy or Connie will have to correct me if I got it all mixed up, it was a long time ago. But I seem to remember we all had a lot of fun in there.
I definitely remember having a great time taking that trip with them and will always love them for giving me the gift of adventurous 'World' travel.
Greg, I thank you for the many memories you gave to me while I grew up alongside your wonderful daughter; and for the cheerful support you always provided to me when I needed some guidance or a friendly conversation.
You are and will be always be my Father-in-Friendship. You are so dearly missed - you filled my heart with love and joy because you were you.
It soothes my grief a bit to know that you will be watching over all of us now.

I often saw Greg up at Camp Makajawan, along with his son Scooter. He was a dedicated professional to his trade and mentored many young men with his carpentry skills up at camp. He will be greatly missed, yet we are truly blessed to have his son still with us. I am sure he will carry on his fathers great legacy. Rest in peace Mr. Sander.
