Obituary of Philip Grenier
We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Philip Grenier on September 10, 2022. Born on November 20, 1951 to Kenneth and Marion (nee Manson) Grenier, Phil was a devoted son, brother, and uncle. He was a Chicagoland institution widely known for his deep passion for wine, jazz, the blues, Strat-O-Matic, and the Cubs. As the extraordinary man behind the tasting bar at Wine Knows, he created more than just a store---he played host to a community of strangers who became friends over stories, good wine, and music. As Phil often said, Wine Knows is like Cheers---“a place where everyone knows your name.” He enriched so many lives and he will be missed greatly.
Phil was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his many longtime friends, customers, and former colleagues. Many friends and customers grew to know, and fondly adore, Wine Knows' salespeople, winemakers, and brewers thanks to Phil's invitations to pour at Wine Knows' seasonal and spontaneous tastings. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Richard) Hail; nieces, Natalie Hail and Andrea (Matthew) Martyn; and great-nephew, Russet Martyn.
A celebration of life will take place at 10am on Saturday, September 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Ave. in Libertyville.
Family and Friends are welcome to a reception held at Philip's wine store, Wine Knows from 12ish to ? on Saturday Sept 17th at Wine Knows, 1130 W Washington St, Grayslake, IL 60030
