Obituary of Marion Powell

Marion was born July 15, 1925 in Plymouth, MA, daughter of William and Mabel Clark.  She graduated from Plymouth High School and attended Bridgewater State Teachers College.  She graduated from Library School in Springfield, MA.  Marion married Victor Powell in 1947 and moved to Crawfordsville, IN, where she was active in the community.  She helped organize and served as the first elementary school librarian in Crawfordsville.  She was the Director of the first Sheltered Workshop, the first director of the FISH program, and worked 20 years as the Children’s Librarian at the public library.  She taught Sunday school at the United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 70 years.  She was a Girl Scout leader and VP of the Crawfordsville Chapter of the NAACP.  She  packed and delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Wesley Thrift Shop.  In September 2021, she was acclaimed as an Honorary Alumna of Wabash  College.   She loved reading, gardening, hiking in the woods and swimming.  In 2017, she moved to Libertyville, IL to be closer to family.  She is survived by her daughters, Carol Lombardi (Lou) of Libertyville, Illinois, and Karen McCarthy (Mike) of Twin Falls, Idaho, four grandchildren and two great granddaughters.  To honor her wishes, there will be no service.  In remembrance of Marion, spend time outside, spend time in a garden, spend time with friends.  Memorial gifts in her honor can be sent to FISH of Montgomery County, IN or the Nate Quinn Vic and Marion Powell Scholarship Fund, Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN.
