Obituary of Christa L. Knechtel

Christa L. Knechtel, 83, of Libertyville, passed away on April 30, 2022, peacefully at her home. Christa was born in Germany to Richard and Ruth Paschke and was later raised by her stepfather, Otto F Carl. She immigrated to the United States when she was 12 and loved being an American. Christa graduated from St. Scholastica High School and Rosary College in Chicago. She was a lifelong learner and enjoyed reading and poetry. She had a passion for teaching and became an English teacher for schools in Chicago. Christa was a talented gardener and she would have some of the most beautiful gardens each year.

Christa is survived by her loving children, Carla (John) Lussem and Bettina “Betsy” (Carl Richard Peterson Jr.), her dearest grandchildren, Dylan and Amelie Lussem, and her cherished 3 nieces and 1 nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manfred.

Visitation for Christa will be from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 5th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am on Friday, May 6th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
