Aunt Joan was always kind and fun to be around. I loved her stories of family and her travel adventures. She shared favorite recipes and made sure to pass along family history. She was a good role model as she was the first woman in the family to get a degree and work as a professional. I loved her dearly and will miss her greatly.

Aunt Joan always seemed smart and sophisticated to me and very devoted to Mimi. I remember those crisp, white nursing uniforms and she and Uncle Jack sort of competing to get to that couch at 103 Oak Street to rest after long work days. I also remember that she came over to our house in Lincoln Park, on occasion, to administer "shots" [vaccines]....not so much fun.
When my beloved twin sis, Sue, and I made our first holy communion Aunt Joan was there a lot helping Sue feel comfortable with all the fuss. I, too, visited Aunt Joan in Chicago, 1969, and she made me a great dinner and we talked about my thoughts to switch majors at U of MI from pre-law to pre-med....a year later I did just that and on occasion over the years after I was practicing medicine, she and I would have some "shop talk" about somebody's illness. She was a role model for all of us many nephews and nieces. It was great to see her and Ed find each other a little later in life and then have many years together.
Thanks, Aunt Joan....you were very respected and appreciated.

Aunt Joan was our favorite aunt, probably because she was the youngest and she was cool! She was the nurse at camp Dearborn when we were kids spending the summer there. We would stop in and visit and tell all the other kids she was our aunt!
She hosted a nieces weekend at Detroit Beach ( only once!). We may have been a little more than she could handle!
Mimi took us on the train to visit her in Chicago, so much fun! We ate breakfast at the pancake house and went to Soldiers Field for a concert.
She was our nurse when my sister Mary and I had our tonsils out at Wyandotte General.
She moved to Florida for a while, but then came back to Michigan.
She met Uncle Ed, a soft spoken wonderful man with a great handlebar mustache!
They lived in Garden City, nice and close!
When aunt Joan and Uncle Ed retired they would go to Florida for the winter and play golf.
Our folks started going to Florida too and we would visit them and auntJoan and uncle Ed would have us over for really fancy dinners! Aunt Joan was a good cook!
Over the years we would meet up for a lunch or dinner. Often I would meet them at one of my stores and we would plan a visit that ended with a trip to Archie’s.
We would talk about our families and who we had seen lately.
When they planned to move to Gurnee cousin Kathy and her husband Rick had a party at their home. We had a great time, and the food was good too!
On my last visit to Gurnee I said goodbye to aunt Joan.
There were a lot of people there that day. I asked her if she was okay with all the activity, she said yes. When she scanned the room she saw uncle Ed,Jan, Beth, her helper Janice, me.. and she said, with a big smile, yes… Family. She loved her family…all of them.
She will be missed.
Love you!

Aunt Joan had the ability to always make you feel "right" at home. Mimi and I made several trips, via train, to spend time with her in Chicago. Her dedication and love of nursing helped me make the decision to become a nurse. As she told me once "nursing is not what I do, its who I am". Love and miss you, give mom and dad big hugs and kisses for us.

I'll always remember Joan's warm smile and her bright and generous nature. She always made me, and everyone else around her, feel "at home"... comfortable, happy, welcome, and loved.
