Armond Sylvester Conte, commissioned WWII combat infantry officer, 97, went to be with the 'Lord' at 12:37 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 Born in East Monongahela, PA, to Antonio and Rose (Iovino) Conte on April 17, 1916, Armond was the third of 10 children. He graduated from Monongahela High School (1933) and the University of Pittsburgh (1938) with a BS in chemical engineering. From 1941 to 1946 Armond served in the US Army; completing active duty as a captain in the Fighting 69th Infantry Division that met the Russians at the Elbe River. After military service Armond worked in the glass industry as a chemical engineer. He is survived by his wife, Melba (Hinton); son, Jeffrey (Joy) Conte; two daughters, Sister Pamela Conte and Lisa Todd; a brother, Frank (Marilyn) Conte; two sisters, Jean Bennett and Edith Natalini; grandchildren Hannah Conte, Lina Todd, Armond Conte II, Elizabeth Conte and Jeffrey Conte; and great-grandchildren, JR Conte. Visitation Thursday, July 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Route 176, one block east of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville.
