Obituary of Thomas Joseph Duffy
Thomas Joseph Patrick Duffy, 74, a longtime Libertyville resident passed away April 10, 2021. Tom was born and raised in Waukegan, graduating from St. Anastasia School and Waukegan Township High School. He went to Loras College and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Illinois in Civil Engineering. Tom was a valued Structural Design Engineer for over 40 years at Sargent & Lundy. He managed electric power plant projects for electric utilities worldwide.
Tom married the love of his life, Sandra (nee Matayosian), 47 years ago and shortly thereafter they built their house in Libertyville, where they raised their family together. Tom was a loyal Chicago Bears fan and was proud to support the home team. He loved taking his family up to their Wisconsin Lake House, a family tradition they have kept for over 35 years. Tom treasured traveling the world with Sandra and their memories together. Tom was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Libertyville and was a member of the church choir. Tom dedicated his life to his faith and his family. His pride and joy were watching his 3 grandchildren grow.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Sandra; his adoring children Michael (Sue) Duffy and Kathleen (Mike) Madden; and his cherished grandchildren Tommy, Jack and Clare. Tom is preceded in death by his siblings Tim and Terry Duffy.
Visitation for Tom will be held from 4-8pm Thursday April 15, 2021 at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am Friday April 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Those wishing to attend the Mass are asked to please pre register at https://stjoseph.
