Leo “Bud” G. Elfering Jr., US Army, 89, longtime Libertyville resident, passed away December 20, 2020 in his home surrounded by family and friends.
Leo was born in 1931, educated, and met his wife, Judith, of 56 years, in Libertyville, IL. They raised three children, Christopher, Sandra, Gregory, in the brick home that he built. He worked as a bricklayer for forty years, and was a talented carpenter and furniture maker. He left his mark throughout Lake and Cook County contributing to the building of Lake Forest Hospital, American National Bank in Libertyville, Abbott Laboratories, Lincolnshire Marriott, Water Town Place, McCormick Center, Northwestern and Loyola Medical Centers and DePaul University. Leo was a man of strong faith and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church throughout his life. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and children.
Leo was preceded in death by his father, Leo; his mother, Edythe; and his brother, Larry. He is survived by his wife, Judith; his three children and their spouses, Diane, Timothy, and Jennifer; his sister, Frances Romeo; brother, Thomas; his grandchildren, Katlyn, Maggie, Emily, and Nicholas; and great-granddaughter Hadley.
Funeral Mass for Leo will be held at 10:30am Monday January 4, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Military honors to follow Mass. Interment St. Mary of the Annunciation, Fremont Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Catholic Charities www.catholiccharities.net, Susan G Komen https://komenchicago.org, or American Cancer Society www.cancer.org would be greatly appreciated.
