Obituary of Ethel Mae Bicknase-Getchell

Ethel Mae Bicknase-Getchell passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, following a short battle with cancer. She passed quietly at her son and daughter-in-law's home. Ethel was 100 years old. Born on March 6, 1920 in Libertyville, IL. she lived a very full and active life. Married to W. William Bicknase until he passed in 1993; and then to D. Douglass D. Getchell Jr. until he passed in 2011.
She began college at the age of 50, graduating Suma Cum Laude. Ethel began teaching middle school. then high school, and finally became a Adjunct Professor of English at Jacksonville University in Florida. She returned to Libertyville in 2013 to live in Spring Meadows Retirement Home.
Ethel is preceded in death by her mother and father Myrtle & Charles Jochheim, her sisters Eyelyn Radloff, Ione Crichton, Mary Jo Bailey; her brothers James Jochheim, and Robert Jochheim. Ethel is survived by her sisters Norma Kick and Barbara Fagen; son David Bicknase and daughter-in-law Mimi Johns-Bicknase; granddaughter Shadow Michelle Backus, grandsons Gabriel and Jacob Bicknase; grandchildren Alexandra, Ashley, Brandon, Michaelangelo and Isabella Bicknase, Aziah, Ramse and Taavi Backus; along with many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
