Obituary of Inna Kerrigan
Inna Kerrigan, 76, of Libertyville, passed away May 10, 2019 at Advocate Condell Med. Ctr. Libertyville. At the age of 7, Inna immigrated to the United States from a Displaced Person’s Camp in Schleissheim Germany, during WWII. Her early years were spent in Springfield, Massachusetts where she attended grade school, junior high and high school. Inna’s devotion to her Orthodox religion and Russian heritage was evident during her teen and late teen years where she volunteered her time to newly immigrated families. She dedicated her time teaching families how to adapt to the American culture, learn the English language and when needed act as an intermediary and translator.
Her passion for education started at Westfield State University (Mass) where she earned a Bachelors in Education. After receiving a Masters of Education from Dayton University in Ohio) she dedicated her professional life to education, teaching Mathematics. In her early professional years, she taught Junior High Mathematics at schools throughout Massachusetts, Ohio and Illinois including a handful of inner city public schools.
After moving to Illinois, Inna became an educational Consultant for Mathematics to the Lake County District and State Board of Education. She developed and introduced new, best practices for teaching mathematics and comprehensive learning techniques. Inna later served as the Assistant Superintendent of Deerfield Public School District (K – 8th Grade) where she introduced educational programs for Gifted Students that are utilized today. Inna ended her career by serving as the President of the Board of Education for Libertyville School District (District #128).
Inna’s family was her biggest treasure followed by her passion for education, advanced learning and children. She was an active member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Palatine, Illinois. Her life was devoted to helping others – whether it was welcoming a new member to her Church, tutoring a a struggling mathematics student or watching the Kentucky Derby and attending the Opera her children and grandchildren.
Inna is survived by her husband Paul; her children Michael (Heather), Andrew and Kathryn; her grandchildren Megan and Amy and her nieces Mila Tsairidis and Elena Martin.
Visitation for Inna will be from 4:00 – 8:00pm Monday May 13th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl (Rt 176. 1 Blk East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. Funeral Service will be 10:00am May 14th at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, 1449 North Quentin Road, Palatine, Illinois 60067. Interment will take place in Springfield, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and/or Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church in Palatine, Illinois. Funeral Info (847) 362-2626.
