Obituary of Thomas P Swartz

Thomas, “Mel” to his friends, P. Swartz, 59, a 25-year resident of Gurnee, passed away Feb 24, 2019 at Advocate Condell Medical Center. Tom owned and operated his own plumbing business, Swartz Plumbing and was member of the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers' Local Union 130 U.A.. He was remembered for his witty and dry sense of humor that always left you guessing. Beneath his tough exterior was a kind and gentle heart. Tom loved being able to help others out, whether customers, friends or family, who needed guidance with an issue or a tool to use. He was the go-to guy.  Tom held himself to the highest standards and those that didn’t understand would better get out of the way. Tom is fondly remembered for his life hack “Tom-isms”.

Tom loved his toys including muscle cars, off-road Jeeps, and power boats.  Once he found a passion he was set to learn and experience all there was. Tom was a real man, he told things “as it was”, even if the message was hard to hear. Tom also excelled in the kitchen, his popcorn or peanut butter balls were always the best and he loved sharing his culinary creations with everybody he knew.

Tom is pre-deceased by his parents Gwen and Don and survived by his wife Jeanne of 27 years; his sister Kim (Bill) Neiert; his brother David (Sarah) Swartz; and his many nieces and nephews whom he loved to play tricks on and spoil rotten!

Tom's family will  t will receive from friends from 10:00 am to 12 noon on Saturday May 25th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl (Rt 176, 1 Blk East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville.

A Celebration of Life of Tom’s Life will 12 noon on Saturday May 25th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel.
