Obituary of John M Munsch

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother; John M “Micky” Munsch. Surrounded by his loving family, John, 84, died September 28, 2018, from complications due to a recent illness.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Jean (Barnett); five children John (Lisa) Munsch, Jr of Boulder, CO, Mary (James) Lipe of Carmel, IN, Linda (Mark) Heffernan of Pyrford, Surrey, England, Kathleen McCabe of Des Plaines and Carol Bagley of Niles; his adored grandchildren Cory and Casey Munsch, Mitchell and Ryan Lipe, Lauren and Rachel Heffernan, Jenna and Kristen Bagley; and his dear sister Mary Ann (Lewis) Stock.

John was born February 14, 1934, at his family home in Columbia Heights, MN. He enlisted in the Army, serving our country overseas for 2 years and obtained rank of Sargent. John was forever appreciative of his opportunity to study Tool & Die at Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, MN on the GI Bill. He began his career at the University of Minnesota Rehabilitation Center before moving his family to Libertyville in 1972.  He dedicated 24 years of his professional life to developing life saving devices for use in kidney dialysis at Baxter for which he was granted 18 US patents and numerous technical achievement awards. During his tenure, he headed the company tennis, golf and downhill skiing clubs.

Additionally, John was an avid supporter of his five children, then grandchildren, in their various athletic endeavors. He cherished summers spent surrounded by friends and family at his lake home in Minocqua, WI where we was an accomplished campfire maker, cribbage player and boat captain. John was quite a wordsmith and will be remembered for his many, humorous contributions to the lexicon.  He was generally regarded by his family, coworkers and neighbors as the guy who could fix just about anything. John was a proud member of American Legion Post #329.

A private ceremony will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd, Libertyville, IL. Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life at time that will later be announced.
