Obituary of Donald E. Swanson
Donald E. Swanson passed away peacefully Aug. 18, 2017. Don, as he was known by colleagues, friends and family, was born in Chicago and married his high school sweetheart, Rae A. Dahl. The two were residents of Libertyville for 50 years. A veteran of the Korean conflict, Corporal Swanson served in both the 101st Airborne Division and was a gunner in the artillery brigade at Fort Campbell, KY. Don was a retired chief editor of leading edge industrial magazines during the plastics and electronics industry booms and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church, he was the last living sibling of a family of 6 children.
Don is survived by his first and only love, Rae A. Swanson (nee Dahl) of 63 years of marriage; his children Robert (Sunjoo) Swanson, Ret. USAF Col. David (Nancy) Swanson and Lori (Robert) Knecht; 8 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews along with numerous good and dear friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his son Donald M. Swanson who was the beloved brother to his siblings.
His family will receive friends Friday Aug. 25 from 3-6 PM at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Rt 176, 1 Blk East of Milwaukee Ave) where funeral services and military honors will be offered at 6:00PM. If desired, memorial donations can be made either to SRACLC (Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County) or Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) —these would be greatly appreciated.
