Obituary of Gerald A. Rodell

Gerald “Gerry” Rodell, 89, WWII Army, of Indian Creek, passed away peacefully November 9, 2016. Gerry was born in Farmington Iowa and graduated from Loyola University Class of ’51. He had a successful 37-year career with DuPont on their sales team. Gerry devoted his time to the Catholic faith and was a founding member of the St. Mary of Vernon Choir. He is a Christy Day Award recipient from the Archdiocese of Chicago. He helped setup the CANA Conference of Chicago – North Suburban district. He freely gave his time to the disabled by delivering communion, driving them to doctor visits, and by visiting. Gerry also was committed to the protection of the environment and was the President of the Sierra Club. His favorite past time was going for walks outside which he did as often as he could. He was a thoughtful and generous man and took great pride in his family. Gerry was a friend to everyone but feared by car salesmen. Gerry is survived by his wife Jane (nee Flynn) of 59 years; his children Frank, Mary (Dan) Colwell, John (Kate) and Michael (Maria) and 11 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his siblings Eileen Mark, Bob Rodell, Clem Rodell and Nedra Rodell. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday Nov. 14 at St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church, 236 US Hwy 45, Indian Creek, 60061. Visitation will be Sunday Nov. 13 at St. Mary of Vernon from 4 -8 pm and Monday 30 minutes prior to Mass. Interment Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Mary of Vernon PADS or Journey Care Hospice, 2050 Claire Ct, Glenview, IL 60025 would be greatly appreciated.
