William “Bill” Groskopf Sr. 76, longtime Libertyville resident, passed away November 12, 2015 at Advocate Condell Medical Center Libertyville surrounded by his family. Bill was a graduate of Northwestern University earning his PhD in Biochemistry. He began his career as a dedicated educator at the Chicago Medical School. He retired from Abbott Laboratories after 20 years, having earned 5 patents for his work. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and member of the Chrysler Car Club. He participated in various bridge groups, loved to golf, work on home improvement projects and taking road trips. He was the King of Spreadsheets and wonderful storyteller. Bill had a great sense of humor. He is fondly remembered for playing Monopoly with his grandchildren. He loved chocolate & Pepsi but his greatest passion in life was his family, everything he did was for them. He was the world’s greatest husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Bill is survived by his wife Mary of nearly 51 years; his children John “Jack” (Anabel), Jennifer and William “Bill” (Erin) Jr; his grandchildren Elle, Eli, Samuel, Matthew and Joshua; and siblings Ralph (Agnes) and the late Anne.
Visitation for Bill will be held Sunday November 15 from 1:00 – 3:30 pm with a memorial service at 3:30 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Route 176, 1 Block East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville.
