Lydia Alonzo, 96, 60 year Berwyn resident, passed away September 29, 2015 in Libertyville. She was born May 17, 1919 to Frank and Marie Smidl in Phillips, WI and grew up on dairy farm in Wisconsin in a family of 10 children. Lydia later moved to Chicago and had successful career with Western Electric. In retirement she was a prominent member of the ‘Pioneers Western Electric’, a charitable organization of retired Western Electric employees. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and playing bingo. She was a loving mom, “Grandma A”, and friend; she will be dearly missed. Lydia is preceded in death by her husband Phillip, daughter Carole (the late Vernon), and her 8 brothers. She is survived by her daughters Diane (Bud) Mantucca and Bonnie (William) Speechley; grandchildren Traci, Kari, Taryn, Sean, Bryce, Lyndsey, Ryanon, Morgen, Toby, and Trevor; 9 great-grandchildren and her sister Mildred. Funeral Mass for Lydia will be 10 am Monday October 5th at St. Joseph Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Visitation will be held Monday from 8:30 until the time of Mass at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, (Rt 176, 1 Block East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville.
