Obituary of Mary Lissa Roemer

Mary Lissa Roemer passed away January 31, 2015. Mary was born on September 18th, 1921 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. She spent most of her life in Waukegan, Illinois. After graduation from Marquette University, Mary joined the United States Marine Corps to do her part during WWII. She retired as a Sergeant in 1945. A Master’s Degree in Education soon followed. Mary taught in the Waukegan Public School system for thirty years and was then employed at Rockland Professional Center in Libertyville. As a Minister of Care, Mary served both St. Joseph’s Church in Libertyville as well as St. Peter’s in Antioch. She also volunteered at the Antioch Public Library and St. Therese Hospital in Waukegan. Mary loved travelling to foreign countries and was a connoisseur of fine wines. She was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Nolan and Ruth Prest and her brother Robert Roemer. She is survived by her brother James Roemer and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge all of the kindnesses and the wonderful care given to Mary by the staff at the Village of Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, IL.
Visitation will take place Thursday Feb. 5 at 9:00 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
