Obituary of Steven John Babiez

Steven Babiez, 53, of Mundelein, passed away January 28, 2015 after a long struggle with cancer. Steve grew up in Chicago (Bucktown) and graduated from Weber High School class of ’79. He had a passion for music, playing piano at a young age, and continued through his adult life. His favorite music was classic rock bands The Beatles, The Who and Yes. His other talents included art and drawing, and he developed a passion for gardening and yard work, keeping his yard and garden perfect. He loved doing projects around the house which included creating his “man cave” in the garage. He loved spending time in the outdoors and camping was one of his favorite getaways. He is known for his great wit, being the life of the party, and a warm heart filled with compassion. One of his favorite quotes was, "If you can see the grill there's not enough meat." His motto was "I'm a trend setter, not a trend follower." Above all else, his greatest passion and utmost priority was his family. Steve is survived by his loving wife Cathy of 19 years of marriage after 14 years of courting; his daughter Nichole “Boo Boo”; mother Helen; brothers Larry (Fran) and Ken (Mary); brother-in-law Denny (Rebecca); nieces and nephew, Mary, Jessica, and Sean; and his favorite dog Sadie. Visitation for Steve will be held Monday Feb. 2nd from 4 – 8 pm at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Rt. 176, 1 Blk East of Milwaukee Ave) Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday Feb. 3rd at 10 am at Saint Mary of the Annunciation, 22333 West Erhart Road, Mundelein.
