What a wonderful person to have met. Although prepared, I dreaded the day I would see this on line. I can only say that this mans survivors have been blessed by his presence in their lives,I know I was blessed to have had the pleasure of working for him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Sesterhenn and her children.

Nora and kids, My deepest sympathies for the loss of Pete. Without his help, the rest of us in his study group at Kellogg would have never graduated. But much more importantly, Pete was a great man. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Kevin

For two years, Pete and I shared the ride from Libertyville, IL to the Evanston campus of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. We sat with our friends in "Study Group I" (Clyde Rundle, Kevin Schneider, Andy Martin and Rey Leon) with whom we also met one evening per week in addition to our all-day weekend classes. We typically sat in the back row, wise cracking a bit too much, full of confident irreverence but eager to have fun and learn a lot as well (in that order).
Our first class was Financial Accounting and I was terrified, to put it mildly. Quantitative subjects don't come easy to me and I was completely lost after the first class. At our very first Study Group evening session the next week, the rest of us were attempting to work out exactly what our Professor had been trying to teach us and we spent quite a bit of time debating the meaning of various concepts and terms.
Finally, and in his gentle, encouraging, brilliant way, Pete stood up and said, "Here's how I think about it," and spent the next 20 minutes delivering and illustrating an elegant, clear, incredibly insightful explanation of the topic in such a way that it crystallized the subject matter for all of us.
We spent the next two years learning from Pete, to whom we turned again and again when the material became challenging. He ALWAYS understood even the most difficult subjects and he patiently explained the concepts, giving us examples and different ways of thinking about them, until all of us "got it." Clyde and I often joked that our degrees should have had Pete's name on them as well as ours because he worked so hard to get us through the program.
More even than his incredible brilliance, Pete's gentle laugh, constant smile, endless encouragement, easy friendship, tremendous sense of calm and support made him not only the star of our group, but its soul as well. I've always thought of him fondly as one of the finest human beings I've ever known.
He spoke with constant pride and affection about his family and he was a model for a great father and husband. He doted on his children, adored his wife, talked about them regularly and these were the only times I ever heard him brag about anything.
I'm so sorry to have lost touch with him and I'm devastated that he is gone. I didn't know he was sick but it is just so much like Pete not to want to burden anyone. I wish I could have talked to him at least one more time to thank him for the incredible difference he made in my life and to tell him how much I admired him. He really was the man I would like to be someday.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Pete's family. He was a great co-worker, leader and friend. I worked with Pete earlier in my career and although he was at a higher level in the organizaiton than I was he never hesitated to assit me with a problem or offer advise. I owe some early successes to Pete's support and mentorship. Leaders like Pete do not come along often. He will be greatly missed.
