Obituary of Bill F McHugh

William Francis “Bill” McHugh was stricken by a heart attack in his Antioch home on May 21, 2024. He was 66.

Bill had the same job from the time he was 18 until he retired earlier this year. He worked for a garbage collection company, which was later purchased by Waste Management, as a driver. He had the same route for most of those four decades with the company and became long-time friends with many of his customers in the Winnetka and Northfield area. Several gathered to host a retirement party for him earlier this year.

The youngest son of the late Patrick and Dolores McHugh, Bill graduated from Mundelein High School in 1976. He was married to Mary (nee Moore) for 38 years when she died in January 2023. He is survived by his children, Kelly, Billy and Sean. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Santina McHugh and Michael McHugh; his brother, Mike (Joan) McHugh; his sisters, Patricia (Mike) Christensen and Carol (the late Rick) Sanders; sister Carol’s fiancé, Paul Polk; and brother-in-law, Michael Moore.

Bill was a hard-working guy beloved my many, including numerous cousins. He enjoyed snowmobiling,  coin collecting, bowling and vacationing in Las Vegas.

His wake is Thursday, May 30, from 3 to 8 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. A funeral mass will be held Friday, May 31, at 10:30 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Ave., Libertyville, followed by interment at Ascension Cemetery.
