Obituary of James M Quirke
James Michael Quirke of Libertyville passed away on May 9th, 2024 due to complications from cancer. Jim was born on February 21, 1941. He was the oldest of four children, the father of six children and grandfather to 10 grandchildren.
He met his wife Bonnie through their strong faith in the Catholic church. As a couple, they lived their lives centered around the teachings of Christ. They introduced their children to the fullness of the Catholic Christian Community.
Jim had a full life. He was a second-generation graduate of St. Joe’s school in Libertyville. After graduating high school, Jim joined the Navy, sailing around the world. He was a dedicated father and husband. He spent countless hours at athletic and school events supporting his children. Jim enjoyed learning about his ancestry and found several documents in his research. He was always willing to share the information he found with his family. He loved spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren. Any opportunity to vacation with them was met with pleasure. Most recently, he was a dedicated volunteer at WSFI Catholic Radio.
He is survived by his siblings: his brother Dennis Quirke, his sisters, Maureen (Matt) Watier and Margaret (the late Lyle) Porteous . He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie, by his children Kathleen (Steve) Koushanpour , Melissa, Jim (Tara) , Brian (Jennifer), Tim (Cindy), and Meghan. He is further survived by his grandchildren Maggie, Elaine, Katie, Michael, Josie, Grace, Emily, Lizzy, Matthew, and James.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 15th at 10:30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Visitation will be in the narthex of the church before the mass. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
