Obituary of Michael James Bond
Michael James Bond, 74, of Fox Lake, passed away on April 9, 2024, at Northwestern Hospital in Huntley. Born in Dayton, Washington, Michael spent his formative years working on the Tidewater Barge Lines along the Columbia River, where he earned the enduring nickname "Tugboat." His journey then led him to Alaska, where he dedicated himself to helping others as a drug and alcohol counselor, a role that reflected his own commitment to sobriety, which spanned an impressive 42 years.
Transitioning to a life on the road, Michael drove commercial rigs across the country for over three decades, embodying a spirit of adventure and independence. In retirement, he embraced a slower pace of life, forming deep friendships through spirited poker games that lasted into the early hours of the morning. Known for his sharp wit and sarcastic humor, Michael cherished the camaraderie of his friends and the warmth of family gatherings.
Michael lived life on his terms, yet he found immense joy in the company of others, relishing lunches with friends and precious moments with loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, independence, and a heart full of love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his sons Dominic, Brian (Ashley) and their son Matthew, and Steve (Carolyn) Wright and their 5 children and 9 grandchildren. Michael is preceded in death by his parents James and Juilaette Bond, his sister Christy and brother Kim.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on April 27th at the Round Lake Area Alano Club, 37023 N Illinois 83, Suite I, Lake Villa, IL, 60046 with a eulogy service at 3:00 .
