Obituary of Virginia S. Sison
Virginia S. Sison, aged 85, of Gurnee, IL, peacefully passed away on February 7, 2024, at Highland Park Hospital. Virginia, an immigrant to the United States, held a deep appreciation for education, earning advanced degrees and a Ph.D. from esteemed institutions including DePaul University, Loyola University, and Notre Dame. Her passion for education led her to devote her career to serving as an Administrator for the Gary School District, specializing in Special Education programs.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Virginia cherished her role within her family, often acting as a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She instilled in them the importance of education, nurturing their growth and development. Virginia was known for her unwavering support and daily prayers for her loved ones.
A devout Catholic, Virginia attended Mass daily and actively participated in prayer groups and rosary circles throughout her life. Her dedication to personal improvement and uplifting others through education was evident in all aspects of her life. She selflessly invested her time and energy in the betterment of others, always prioritizing their needs above her own.
Virginia's absence leaves a significant void in the lives of her family, but her legacy of kindness, devotion, and commitment to education will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her nieces and nephews Maria (Michael) Fedash, Michael (Janine) Gaa, Michelle (David) Ortega, Manuel Jr. (Sandra) Gaa, Sherman Simon, Sherwin Simon and Sheridan (Brandis) Simon and many great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Oliva Sison and her siblings Milagros (Herman) Simon and Mary (Manuel Sr.) Gaa.
Funeral Mass for Virginia will be at 10:30 am on Friday, February 9th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville with a visitation at church one hour prior to Mass. Entombment to follow at Maryhill Catholic Cemetery, Niles. In lieu of flowers, memorials to support the Seminarians with checks made out “University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary” and send to: Jarocki, Senior Director of Development Operations, University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary, 1000 East Maple Avenue, Mundelein, IL 60060.
