Obituary of Joanne R McConnell

Joanne McConnell, 82, peacefully passed away on January 26, 2024. A proud alumna of Northern Illinois University. Joanne embarked on a fulfilling career in education, dedicating more than 25 years of her life to Gurnee School District 56. She left an indelible mark on her kindergarten and first-grade students. Outside the classroom, Joanne found joy in the company of friends from her college days and cherished moments spent with her family, often engaging in friendly card games. Her passion for travel was matched only by her green thumb, evident in the beautiful tomatoes she nurtured in her garden. Known for her selflessness, Joanne consistently prioritized the needs of others, generously contributing her time to her church and delighting everyone with her delicious homemade toffee. An ardent fan of both the Cubs and the Packers, Joanne's sports enthusiasm added a vibrant dimension to her life. Her love and warmth touched the hearts of many.

Joanne is survived by her loving daughter Sharon (the late James) Byrne; her cherished sister Sue (David) Visby; and her dearest nephews David and Donald (Darlene). She is preceded in death by her husband Louis and her parents John and Mildred Hutchinson.

Visitation for Joanne will be from 2:00 – 6:00 pm on Sun. Feb. 4th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Mon. Feb 5th at United Methodist Church of Libertyville, 429 Brainerd Ave, Libertyville. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Lake Forest.
