Obituary of Daniel J Geary

Daniel J. Geary, aged 87, passed away on November 18, 2023, due to heart complications at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Born on September 30, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois to John J. Geary and Rosanna (née Cullimore), Dan was a graduate of St. Mary's of the Lake and DePaul High School, and had seminary studies. He served in the U.S. Army's medical supply corps during the Vietnam War, stationed in Dachau, Germany. His career spanned over three decades at AT&T Teletype Labs. Known fondly as "Uncle Danny," he was a cherished figure in many lives, akin to a second father. A passionate fan of Chicago's sports teams, particularly the Bears and Cubs, Dan also had a love for Irish music, with favorites like "Oh Danny Boy" and "Irish Eyes are Smiling."

He leaves behind his sister, Rosemary Morris, nephews Mike, Patrick, Charlie, Ken, Garrett, and Kevin Schoeben, along with grandnieces and a grandnephew. His sister Therese Schoeben, and nieces Cathleen Morris and Maureen Keorkunian predeceased him.

A devout Catholic, Dan regularly attended St. Viator's Catholic Church. He is fondly remembered and deeply missed, with prayers for his eternal peace and the perpetual shining of divine light upon his soul.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday December 30, 2023 at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd, Gurnee, IL 60031 with a visitation at the church 1 hour prior to Mass. Funeral arrangements by McMurrough Funeral Chapel, (847) 362-2626.
