Obituary of Martha Frances Trygar

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Martha F. Trygar (nee Mallory), 89, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023. Martha was born in Waukegan, IL on October 28, 1934, to Elmer J. and Pearl F. Mallory (Skiera).
Martha adored and cherished her family. She loved the holidays and spending time together with them. She was immensely proud of all her children and grandchildren. Martha also loved animals, especially dogs.
She was a five-time cancer survivor! She believed that faith, a positive attitude, family, and a great medical team all played a part in winning her battles against cancer.
Martha was an outstanding baker whose home looked like a bakery during the holidays with homemade cookies, breads, and other delicious goodies that she would share with family and friends.
Martha was very active in her community.  She was the President of the Altar and Rosary Society at Immaculate Conception Church in Waukegan from 1972-1974 and spent many years working the annual Easter Fair held at Immaculate Conception School. Martha was also a den mother for her son’s Cub Scout troop and room-mother at her children’s school for many years.
In 2001, Martha and her husband Stan won the Volunteers of the Year award from the Gurnee Park District and in 2005, they won the Citizen Volunteers of the Year award presented by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association of the State of Illinois for their exemplary volunteer service and contributions to the Gurnee community.
Martha worked as a florist for over 10 years, which brought out her artistic side. She also worked as a cook at Daniel Webster Junior High School in Waukegan and in the before and after-school care program at Our Lady of Humility School in Zion.
Martha enjoyed traveling with the social clubs that she and Stan were members of. She was an avid reader, loved to sew and enjoyed golfing, bowling, ceramics, playing board games, attending musicals/plays, playing slots and most of all, dancing with Stan.
Martha is survived by her children Stanley Jr. (Dora); Robert (Margaret) and Laura (Marius) Sereika, her grandchildren Jessica Kelly (Chris); Erin Thayer (Davey); Megan Koza (Kevin); Matt Trygar (Jenny); Mark Trygar (Sarah); Jennifer Slowinski (Andy); Lisa Trygar and Ben Trygar (Sara), 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her special caregiver and friend Laima and Misty, Martha’s faithful dog.
Martha was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Stan to whom she was married for over 70 years, her parents Elmer and Pearl, her twin sons Paul and Raymond, her siblings Alan Roby and Jackie Roby.
