I met Nick when I worked at LuxBar. Over the years, we became friends. He helped get me a job at 3L when he worked there. He would send me pictures of his boys. He was so proud of all of you. He was also so proud of his brother, Mark. Mark, Nick and one of their friends, drove down to Kankakee for a campaign event and I met up with them. So many fond memories.

One behalf of the McClellan family I want to extend my condolences to Nick's brothers, sister and most importantly, his sons. He was a great cousin and an even better friend! It's not often a obituary truly captures the man but his did. We often exchanged pictures with our kids and random things would get us texting. He will be missed by my sons who grew up with him during the holidays and my wife and I who made him a part of our wedding. We love you Nick!

On behalf of all the Haucks, we lift up Nick, his children and his siblings in prayer. May perpetual light shine upon him.
He was one of my favorites (no offense, Mark). I recall fondly the time Nick and Justin visited us in DC and we all went to the Air & Space Museum annex near Dulles airport. And the time we had dinner when we visited Chicago. Wish I could have seen him more often. My mother Joan sends her love to all. -Jay Hauck

Nick gave me this photo 20 years ago just after his mom, my Aunt Jane, passed away in August of 2003. He was only 9 months old in the photo as I held him in my lap. Nick was the most gregarious person, always smiling with a story to tell. A friend of mine called Nick ‘The Mayor’ & said he should run for office because he was so in tune with civic events, social happenings, politics & those who held office & back stories to boot. It seemed there was nothing Nick wasn’t aware of, especially family history accompanied by detailed & often hilarious stories about our relatives. If you told Nick something, anything, he would never forget & bring it to light at the drop of a hat, as if he just looked it up on his computer. His mind & memory was a computer. His dad, Uncle Mark, kept notes on 4x6 cards & if that didn’t complete his sentence, Aunt Jane was at the ready to fill in the blanks. She too was up to date on everything current & past & I think this is where Nick inherited his memory skills & interest in everything about a person. Jane & I visited often & if I’d ask about what she was up to she’d immediately & skillfully change the subject to quiz me on my current happenings. She’d always say: “Details. I want details.”
Nick was much the same. After bumping into each other at a grocery store or restaurant, I’d leave the scene shaking my head like ‘what just happened?!’ as if I’d gone through the spin cycle in a washing machine. I’d have no information on him but would chuckle to myself wondering if he took my wallet out of my purse during the inevitable selfie he’d take of the 2 of us carrying our takeout from PF Chang’s as Justin smiled on. Nick was a wonder & I only wish he’d left us a microchip from his amazing mind so we all could glance at a moments notice all he had stored up there.
His smile was wide & his bright blue eyes sparkled, letting anyone & everyone know he was more than approachable. His sense of humor was quick & wicked & I’m laughing now recalling some of the stories he’d tell at dinner or a remark he’d make out of the side of his mouth for only you to hear. To say he will be missed is an understatement. Nick was so gifted & lovable. He was the light of Aunt Jane’s eye & pretty much his entire family. There’s nothing I didn’t love about Nick. It was like winning a scratch off on a lottery card to bump into him. Pure joy. Pure love. Pure Nick. ❤️
