Obituary of Mut Ling Shiu
Mut Ling (Judy) Shiu, 70, passed away on April 19th at 8:22 PM after battling Alzheimer’s and cancer.
She was born on March 11, 1953 in Wenzhou, China to a famous photography family (https://shaoart.com/du/index.php) including her father Du Shao and brothers Jia Ye Shao and Jia Qi Shao whom are all accomplished and nationally published photographers, she was one of 8 children. She met her husband, Kuo Hua (David) Chen in 1970 through their mutual interest in photography. They were married in October 1972. With her husband and two sons, they moved to Hong Kong in 1979, and uprooted and moved to the United States to give their sons a more promising future in 1990.
If you visited Highwood, Illinois you may remember eating at their Chinese restaurant, South River. Mut Ling worked on her English while chatting with customers and had many regulars.
Mut Ling was cared for 24 hours a day by many friends and family in her later years. Most of all, by her devoted husband, he can be credited with her life expectancy being several years beyond anticipation. Other friends and family include Kuo Hua’s brother Jiu Hua Chen and his wife Shao Ming Chen and their friends along with her friend and devoted care taker Chao Ping Hu, whom will all miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Kuo Hua Chen, and her sons families Kin Ryan Chan and Kathie Chan with their children Carson and Kadence; Fong Wai Alan and Melissa Chan with their child Ethan.
A celebration of life will be held at Mc Murrough Funeral Chapel located at 101 Park Place, Libertyville, IL 60048 on Monday April 24th, from 3-7 PM. Family and friends are welcome to join us.
Another service will be held in China in the near future.
