Obituary of Dolores K. Skehan
Dolores K. Skehan, 95, a resident of Libertyville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 25, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 21, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Albert and Kathryn Baldocchi. Her life was dedicated to her family, whom she loved very much. Dolores was a graduate of Steinmetz High School in Chicago. During high school, she worked as a candy girl at the Will Rogers Theater, where she met the love of her life, Ed Skehan. After Dolores and Ed married and moved to the suburbs, they owned and operated the Catlow theater in Barrington, Illinois. Dolores spent many years as a dedicated volunteer for many organizations. When her children were younger, she was a girl scout leader and Santa Maria del Popolo School Guild member. As her children grew, Dolores was a committed volunteer for Carmel High School and Marytown. In her retirement years, Dolores enjoyed the sunshine and warmth of Palm Springs, California. She enjoyed pool time and minor-league baseball with her loving husband. She also continued to volunteer by serving on the board of the Sandstone Villas. Dolores spent her later years enjoying the company of her family and extended family. She loved nothing more than a good chat, except maybe a packet of Smarties.
Dolores is survived by daughters Susan Kearns, Nan Skehan, and Elizabeth DeWitt (Robert); her grandchildren Kathryn Bertram, Ryan Fitzpatrick (Kate), Shawn Fitzpatrick (Cris), Brian Kearns (Tori), Ashley Kearns, Lauren Fermanski (John), and James DeWitt, her three great-grandchildren Mia, Emma, and Colin, as well as her brother Albert Baldocchi and sister Kathleen Pipes. She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Edward J. Skehan, and her parents.
Visitation for Dolores will be from 4-8 PM on Tuesday April 11th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 12th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E Maple Ave, Libertyville. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Fremont Center.
